# Custom section

An empty section you fill yourself, with an optional background image. Use it when none of the other sections fit.

## Set it up

1. Add the section.
2. Optionally add a **Background** image.
3. Add blocks for the content.

## Settings

| Setting    | What it does                                        |
| ---------- | --------------------------------------------------- |
| Background | An optional background image for the whole section. |

Everything else comes from the blocks you add — headings, text, images, buttons, dividers, groups. See [General blocks](/roomfolk/blocks/general-blocks.md).

## When to use this instead of another section

Reach for a purpose-built section first. [Multicolumn](/roomfolk/sections/multicolumn.md) already handles columns, [Image banner](/roomfolk/sections/image-banner.md) already handles text over a photograph, and both give you settings this one does not.

Custom section is for the layout none of them make — a group of blocks arranged your own way.

## If you need code

If what you need cannot be built from blocks, use [Custom Liquid](/roomfolk/sections/custom-liquid.md) instead, which takes code directly.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.lufavo.com/roomfolk/sections/custom-section.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
